After quite a long wait for arrival, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA was finally launched in India, with Mercedes’ smallest SUV introduction price starting at Rs 42.10. The entry point for Mercedes’ SUV lineup, the first-generation GLA, was launched in India in 2014 and was on the market until it was phased out early last year. Currently, the second generation model has appeared, and it is available in a total of three variations: GLA 200 (Rs 42.10 lakh), GLA 220 d (Rs 43.70 lakh), and GLA 220d 4Matic (Rs 46.70 lakh). These are introductory prices valid until June 30th and will increase by Rs 15,000 from July 1st.

Mercedes-Benz Twindia also took this opportunity to launch a new generation of AMG GLA 35 performance SUVs. The price is 57.30 rupees (all prices, in front of the showroom). The AMG GLA 35 is the third AMG model produced at the Mercedes plant in Chakan, near Pune, and costs more than 10,000 rupees than the AMG A35 sedan, which shares a powertrain. It is equipped with the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine and produces 306hp and 400Nm of torque. The 8-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox runs 0-100 kph in 5.1 seconds and reaches top speed at 250 kph.
Based on the same MFA2 platform as the A-Class limousine launched earlier this year, the second-generation GLA is slightly shorter than its predecessor, but with a more upright SUV-like stance and a much bolder design. When it comes to powertrains, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA has two main options. A 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 163hp and 250Nm of torque on the GLA200, and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. Cylinder turbo diesel d that produces torque of 190hp and 400Nm with GLA220.
The 7-speed dual clutch automatic is what the GLA 200 gets, and the GLA 220d gets the 8-speed dual clutch automatic. 0-100 km / h takes 8.7 seconds for the GLA 200 and 7.4 seconds for the GLA 220. Diesel GLA is also available in 4MATIC all-wheel drive systems. This is a variation with black sports seats, flat-bottomed steering wheel and 19-inch alloy. It can do 0-100 km in 7.3 seconds. The new GLA has a total of four driving modes: Sport, Eco, Dynamic and Individual. The GLA 220 d 4Matic gets an additional “offload” mode. This mode modifies power supply and ABS control to facilitate light offload.
As for safety kits, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with its Pre-Safe system, tire pressure monitor, cruise control, autonomous braking (active brake assist) and active bonnet protection to protect pedestrians in the event of an accident.
