What’s your sign according to the Aztec Zodiac?

July 4, 2022 by Staff Reporter

Everyone loves talking about astrology. When we talk about Horoscopes we are usually talking about the astrology that originated in Mesopotamia (c. 3rd-millennium bc) and spread to India, before it developed its Western form in Greek civilization during the Hellenistic period, per Britannica. But the Aztecs, one of the most sophisticated civilizations when it came to agriculture, number systems, calendar, medicine, and poetry, had their own form of astrology. Specialists in Aztec Astrology have identified a horoscope with 12 signs and another one with 20. Today we will be looking at the first one which includes 12 different Aztec signs related to nature, ruled by a certain god or goddess that influences an individual’s behavior. The signs are not divided by dates of months, and the calendar gives specific days to each sign so that according to the day of birth, we will be one sign or another. We looked at descriptions from Padeye, and Horoscopes daily to learn about each sign. Check out what sign you are according to the Aztecs and see if you think it describes you.

Poor posture, core training, Covid kilos: Why Kolkata gyms are seeing a surge in demand | Kolkata News

July 3, 2022 by Staff Reporter

From physical inactivity and weight gain to poor body posture and mental health issues – the pandemic brought along multiple health challenges for us as we led a sedentary lifestyle for months. As life resumes normalcy, the fitness industry – one of the worst-hit by the pandemic – is also bouncing back as more and more people are flocking to the gyms to fix health issues that cropped up in the last two years. The demand for trainers for problem-specific training has also seen a considerable rise.
Agreeing that memberships have jumped drastically, Debjyoti Banerjee, owner of a gym in Salt Lake, said, “It is taking us a while to recover economically, but people have become quite conscious about fitness after the pandemic. The spike in memberships is proof to that,’’ he said.

More takers for core strength training
With the discussions around how immunity and fitness can mitigate the complications of Covid-19, there has been a sharp rise in demand for trainers who can help one improve their core strength. The new-gen obsession with a lean body has taken a back seat and they now want to focus more on core strengthening to prepare their bodies for any impending pandemic-like situation.
“My focus has never been on losing weight but on gaining core strength. Even during the pandemic, I used to train with my trainer online,’’ said Snighda Jaiswal, a fitness enthusiast who works out at a gym on Karaya Road.

Getting rid of WFH pain and Covid kilos
Neeraj Surana, head coach, strength and conditioning trainer, at a gym on Elgin Road, said, “The good thing about the pandemic is that people have started prioritising their health by making workout, in whatever form, a part of their daily routine. Most people were physically inactive during the lockdown, which led them to gain weight. They are now coming to the gym to get rid of the Covid kilos apart from back and knee pain, which is a common issue among people working from home.” Neeraj added that gym memberships have shot up by 30-40% compared to pre-Covid days.
Echoing Neeraj, Debasish Chandra Paloi, a fitness expert from a gym in Southern Avenue, said, “Majority of people went out of shape during the pandemic. Flexibility, strength and mobility were highly impacted due to lack of physical activities. That apart, many people have started suffering from back pain, shoulder pain or knee pain. So, there is a growing demand for strengthening exercises along with aerobics. And with Puja just three months away, the urge to get back in shape is even higher.”
Asmita Roy, who works for an IT company, got herself a gym membership recently. “My posture has gone for a toss after working from home for long hours. That apart, I gained belly fat as my physical activities almost stopped during lockdown months. So now, I have joined a gym to correct my posture and get a toned body by Puja,” she shared.

Workout for a healthy mind
Emotional eating coupled with physical inactivity has not just led to obesity, but it has also taken a toll on mental health for many. Irregular working hours, paucity of support and recreational activities, and the fear of an impending danger have played havoc in the lives of many. Therefore, many have started working out just to regain their mental peace.
“Post pandemic, we have had a very balanced demand for yoga, Bollywood workout and cardio – a combination that can unleash the right hormones and make you feel happy,” said Nidhi Karnani from a yoga, dance and fitness studio on AJC Bose Road.
Gyms extend timings
To cater to the growing number of members, gyms are extending their hours of operation. “Though many gyms are now open round-the-clock or till midnight, the most preferred timings continue to be early morning and evening after office hours,” said Debasish.
While the health impact of the pandemic and lockdown is more far-reaching than what we can comprehend, with the pendulum swinging to a new normal, the fitness industry is all set to receive a mini boost.

Gyms plan to come up with new branches to cater to growing demand
The pandemic saw several gyms shutting down due to financial woes. But it is now time for them to bounce back as people are making a beeline to get enrolled in gyms. While most gyms have reopened, many are even planning to open new branches. Karan Das, fitness trainer and owner of a gym in Picnic Garden, said the general mindset towards fitness as a way of life has seen a big positive change after the pandemic. “Covid has made all of us realise that health is indeed wealth. So now, more than weight loss and muscle building, people are hitting the gym to stay fit and flexible. The focus is on strengthening oneself. We are keeping our gym open from 6 am till midnight so that we can cater to the growing demand while keeping social distancing in mind,” said Karan, who is also planning to open a new branch in Gariahat soon.

July 1, 2022 by Staff Reporter

These celebrity chinchillas are already known all over socia media for their adorable videos. Henry, Chip, Knox and Linus love acting, dancing, and sending motivational messages to their fans and followers.

This time, these furry friends from Ohio, best known as the ‘Chinpals,’ are recreating the popular Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’ with the help from their owner Shelby Alfredson, dressing up as every character from the latest season of the show.

But this is not the first time the adorable pets go viral for recreating a fan-favorite series or film, previously reenacting a scene from Titanic in the funniest way possible.

With more than 5 million followers on TikTok and 365.000 on Instagram, ‘The Chinfluencers’ are always spreading good vibes for their follwers, holding hilarious signs with their tiny paws, showing off their dance moves and dressing up in cute outfits.

“I didn’t know anything about chinchillas. I thought it was going to be an easy pet,” their owner shared, talking about her experience and frienship with her pets, “They are really cool, so one thing led to another and I got Chip and I got two more, so now I have four and they have their own bedroom.”

She was also very surprised when her furry friends started going viral. “I thought ‘It’s not a big thing. They’re not going to care.’ And, well, it turns out that people really liked it,” she explained, “Sometimes we do like the Titanic, the movies and stuff and it’s been really fun to do it that way.”

These Shatterproof Glasses Are Safer (and Way More Fun to Use) Than the Real Thing

June 27, 2022 by Staff Reporter

If you’ve ever suffered the shock (or worse, an injury!) of a glass breaking after getting knocked over or slipping out of your hand, you know how accidental drops can feel so disorienting, maddening, and even a little bit sad. In the blink of an eye, your beautiful set of drinkware is one vessel short and you now have a lot of tiny, dangerous pieces to clean up.

These shatterproof glasses, on the other hand, should last you pretty much forever with proper care. And even if they fall to the ground, they should suffer barely a scratch. Whether you use them as your main glasses or just for outdoor enjoyment for parties, they’ll keep it together for you.

The Best Shatterproof Glasses

What Is Shatterproof Glass?

If you’re in the market for a set of unbreakable glasses, the cups you’ll find are typically made of some form of plastic. Two types represented in this guide include acrylic and Tritan copolyester. Both of these materials look exactly like glass and are BPA-free. The only tradeoff is that you’ll probably be able to tell by picking them up that they aren’t real glass. These cups don’t have the same weight or delicate build as glass, so they may not feel as upscale and special as the real thing. However, the shatterproof glasses in this guide are a cut above the rest in terms of quality, and they don’t have that cheap bendiness that other plastic cups have.

Both Tritan copolyester and acrylic can go in the dishwasher — however, the latter should go on the top rack only. This is because the top rack of the dishwasher is farther away from the appliance’s heat source and is less likely to result in warping of the glasses’ material. And while these two materials can survive drops without shattering, it’s possible that abrasive scrubbing may scratch their surface — so be mindful of the type of kitchen sponge you use if you do hand-wash these.

If you want to dial up the resiliency of your drinkware up to 11, we’ve also included an unbreakable glass set made of silicone. This material may not look anything like glass, but it has the benefit of being even more resilient than acrylic and Tritan copolyester, as silicone is uncrushable and unscratchable, as well as being shatterproof. We love silicone cups for their insulating properties and oven-, microwave-, and dishwasher-safe build.

With shatterproof glasses, the sky is the limit in terms of style, but we curated this guide to represent five top-quality, aesthetically pleasing, and fun-to-use sets that’ll easily become the most-reached-for cups in your collection. Check out the best unbreakable glasses below.

Gareth Bale Announces He’s Ditching Real Madrid For Los Angeles FC

June 26, 2022 by Staff Reporter

Welsh superstar Gareth Bale has defected to Los Angeles FC after nine success-filled years at Real Madrid. And while he might not be the explosive winger he once was, the signing is still one of the biggest in Major League Soccer history.

Although Los Angeles FC has not officially announced the signing just yet, Gareth Bale himself confirmed the development via his own social media channels this past weekend.

As last season rolled on, Bale’s departure from Madrid was inevitable. He simply wasn’t receiving the game time he once commanded and his lucrative $1 million per week – yes per week – contract was coming to an end.

RELATED: Everything You Need To Know About The 2022 Fifa World Cup

Clubs around Europe clamoured to speak with his representatives for months. There were reportedly several viable candidates in the running.

Bale’s former club Tottenham asked the question of the 32-year-old, while rivals Chelsea even entertained the notion of bringing the Wales captain to Stamford Bridge. A return to his hometown Cardiff would have been romantic – and they tried to make it happen – but they didn’t have the money. That and the fact Bale isn’t quite ready to play second-tier English football yet.

Like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, David Villa, Theirry Henry, and others before him, Gareth Bale was attracted to the US lifestyle as much as the football. He joins a club flying at the top of the Western Conference and will likely debut on July 9th against Beckham’s old team, LA Galaxy. The MLS transfer window doesn’t officially open until July and the current season has been going since February.

Gareth Bale also recently led Wales to their first FIFA World Cup in 64 years. At Los Angeles FC, he’ll play until early November if his team makes the final. That’s a perfect lead into the World Cup due to be held in Qatar.

RELATED: Kylian Mbappé Will Now Earn A Jaw-Dropping $215,000 Per Day

Interestingly, he’s only penned a one-year deal. So by Christmas, Gareth Bale could very well be on the move once again. Similar to Christiano Ronaldo, his raw speed is now mostly a distant memory. His ability to take key chances and dead ball work, however, remains as sharp as ever.

Given Wales’ rise to prominence in recent international competitions, Gareth Bale may also be eyeing off Euro 2024 in Germany. He joined Real Madrid for a then-world record fee of $155 million in 2013, winning five Champions League medals, three domestic titles, and scoring more than 100 goals.

Though his performances were mostly strong, he flirted with leaving more than once, which meant his relationship with Real Madrid’s fans wasn’t always healthy. For now, Wales will be hoping Bale can up his playing minutes at Los Angeles FC, keep that lethal left boot in pristine form, and head to Qatar in cherry ripe condition to cause some upsets.

Genius comes in many forms. (Photo: Amazon)

Home is where the heart is. So, as shopping experts, we spend ample time digging for the best home deals on Amazon. Our mission is to deliver the best ideas and opportunities to our readers, but with so much exposure to hidden gems, every so often, we end up clicking “add to cart” ourselves.

Below are some too-good-to-resist items that our team can’t stop talking about— with commentary, straight from the staffers’ mouths. From the practical (like an unbreakable wine tumbler) to the pretty (satin pillowcases, anyone?), we’ve got the goods, and they’re all under $30.

If you have Amazon Prime, you’ll get free shipping on all these treasures, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. Just sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And even those without Prime get free shipping on orders of $25 or more).

Here are the finds Yahoo Life staffers are hooked on this week.

Liz Kiernan, commerce director

LiBa Shower Curtain Liner

LiBa

$12 $17 at Amazon

This simple liner — which can also be used solo as a shower curtain — is designed to repel water rather than hold it. It dries fast so there’s no excess moisture in the room. Magnets along the bottom hold it in place. It comes in clear, frosted or opaque white.

“I never thought I’d get excited about a shower curtain liner, but Amazon is full of surprises. I’ve had the mildew-resistant Liba liner (Amazon’s No. 1 bestseller) for 6 months, and it still looks as new as the day it arrived—no cleaning necessary. That is exciting!”

Westry Green, managing editor

“I am a die-hard minimalist, and I love nothing more than an absence of clutter. But no matter how much I aim to be a person with a limited number of items that I love and use regularly, I have a family. That means I have a lot of stuff in my house and I need to stock up on extras so we don’t run out of hand soap at 10 pm on a Saturday night. The best I can do is keep all of those daily items — printer paper, snack foods, extra bottles of shampoo, DVDs, and so much more — organized and behind closed doors. These multi-purpose organizers hold everything, and they are so affordable that I can buy as many sets as I need. Since they come in a variety of sizes, there’s one that works for nearly everything. I use them in cabinets or closets in every room of my house to help keep my family organized — and keep me sane.”

Nicole Sforza, executive editor

Drinique Stemless Tritan Wine Glasses

Drinique

$31 at Amazon

These unbreakable wine glasses have a nicely weighted base, so they feel great in the hand. They can go in the dishwasher, and they come in lots of chic colors. This price gets you a set of four.

“Hefty (but not too hefty), this is my go-to summer glass. It’s pretty enough for company, and because it’s unbreakable, I don’t have to worry about if one falls on the patio or by the pool. I love the shape and the color, too.”

Stephanie Sisco, commerce editor

“With original 1960’s hardwood floors throughout my house and a tumbling two year old running around, I’ve got a lot of rugs to soften up the space. But the peril of those floor coverings is that they can slide around or roll up at the corners, posing a whole other set of challenges. Enter these rug pad grippers. I easily attached them to each corner of my rugs and no more slippage!”

Izabella Zaydenberg, senior commerce editor

“My cat is equal parts curious and clever, so once she figured out how to open up my closet doors and kitchen cabinets, she’d spend hours in there, breaking into boxes of pasta and getting her fur all over my clothes. After buying an endless amount of child-proof locks (and her breaking every single one in hours) I finally came across these, and I’m in love. They’re heavy-duty, don’t damage the surface they’re stuck on, and can withstand hours of pawing. I’ve had the same set for over a year, and my cat has yet to break into anything. Me: 1, kitty cat: 0.”

Libby Sentz, commerce editor

“When my husband handed me OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer for my birthday last week, I very rudely handed it right back to him. He knows I want to streamline our kitchen drawer, y’all. But then I noticed the twist-and-pull pit remover — now that looks handy. I gave it a whirl. This 3-in-1 tool truly does take the mess out of avocado prep, and it stores nice and flat. Thanks, Dear!”

Vinciane Ngomsi, sports commerce writer

Surpahs Dish Drying Rack

Surpahs

$28 at Amazon

This rack can lay across the sink to let dishes drip dry. It’s collapsible, so if you’re tight on space, you can tuck it away when it’s not in use.

“As someone who cooks (a lot), I find that running the dishwasher doesn’t always make sense — because later the same day I’ll inevitably need the same pots, pans and cooking utensils. So I do a lot of hand-washing. This rack is perfect for drying tools and dishes, and, because it rolls up and tucks away after use, it’s a great upgrade from the cumbersome full-size plastic drying rack I used to have.”

Rachel Roszmann, commerce editor

Bedsure Satin Pillowcase

BEDSURE

$9 at Amazon

These 100% polyester satin pillowcases protect delicate facial skin from abrasion, creases and tugs — and they’re gentle on hair too. Some folks swear by them for keeping hair static-free and avoiding bed-head. A nice gift-to-self, a great addition to a guest room and an essential element of truly restorative beauty sleep.

“I love these pillowcases because it’s fun to sleep on satin! They also come in fun colors (I have lavender and teal) that brighten my bedroom.”

Derek Arbogast, commerce writer

Intex – Inflatable Swimming Pool

Intex

$23 at Amazon

This kiddie pool is made with robust laminated PVC material, and even the bottom inflates — so there’s a soft surface below fee. Great for kids or adults. For this price, you get TWO pools.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I make this Amazon Home recommendation. Truth is, me and my paramour are on the outs…unfortunately, the house is in both our names, so we’re stuck living together. This has made our sunrise aqua meditation a challenge. But this pair of Intext inflatable swimming pools, now just $23, is a godsend. At 45 inches wide, they’re roomy enough for each of us to go full lotus, and because there are two of them, we don’t so much as have to look at each other. I can feel the serenity in my veins just saying that.”
